Why Choose Spray Form Insulation?
Spray foam insulation is an excellent air barrier and yields a higher R-value than tradition Batt Insulation for the same amount of thickness. This effective insulation can be poured, sprayed, injected, or foamed-in-place and is exceptionally effective at sealing hard to reach areas.
This insulation is becoming increasingly popular not only for its versatility but also for its ability to be installed quickly and with less hassle. Blanket/Batt insulation is a highly efficient form of insulation but requires time and delicate work to receive its highest R-value. Spray Foam insulation is easier to install while still providing a proficient and thorough air barrier.
While Spray Foam yields many benefits and doesn’t mold, it isn’t as budget-friendly and is more expensive than our other options. But, for what it brings to the home, it’s a worthy investment any homeowner can make.
Difference Between Open-Cell and Closed-Cell Insulation
The main difference between open-cell and closed-cell spray foam insulation is how the cells expand and what element is at work. Closed-cell insulation consists of high-density closed cells filled with gas and helps the foam expand to fill the surrounding spaces.
Open-cell foam is less dense and filled with air, giving the foam insulation a spongy texture. Open-cell insulation is less expensive but does not yield as high an R-value as closed-cell does. Closed-cell insulation provides stronger resistance against moisture and air leakage. Because its material is much denser than open-cell insulation, it has a higher R-value but is more expensive to install.
If going with open-cell foam, note that it isn’t wise to be used below ground level because it could absorb water
